Date & Walnut Cake

Nestle--Sweetened--397g

Nestlé® Sweetened Condensed Milk 397g

From the kitchen you will need

  • Seedless Dates 900 g
  • Baking Soda 20 g
  • Butter 460 g
  • Sugar 50 g
  • Brown Sugar 100 g
  • Nestlé® Sweetened Condensed Milk 397 g
  • Eggs 8 numbers
  • Vanilla 2 teaspoon
  • Flour 640 g
  • Walnuts 200 g
  • Salt 2 teaspoon
  • Baking Powder 2 tablespoons
  • Water 1.5 liter

Step by Step

  • Preheat oven to 175° C. Grease and flour a 9-inch square pan
  • In a saucepan, combine water and chopped dates
  • Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes
  • Remove from heat and stir in baking soda. Set aside
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter and white sugar until light and fluffy

  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla
  • Beat in the flour, salt and date mixture
  • Pour batter into prepared pan
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean
  • Remove cake from oven, and set oven to broil

  • For the topping
  • In a saucepan, melt 200g of butter
  • Stir in brown sugar, 1 tin Nestlé® Sweetened Condensed Milk and chopped nuts
  • Spread mixture over warm cake and place in the oven under broiler until lightly browned for about 3 minutes
  • Watch carefully as mixture could easily burn under the broiler
  • Cool before serving
